María C. Hood of Polo Road Elementary School in Columbia, Elizabeth Sanderson of Lakewood High School in Sumter and Hollis R. Wilkes of Sara Collins Elementary School in Greenville are the 2009 finalists for the South Carolina Spanish Teacher of the Year, an annual distinction sponsored by The Citadel’s Tau Iota Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

Thomas McQueeney, a member of The Citadel Board of Visitors, received one of the state’s highest honors Friday during a military dress parade.  Gov. Mark Sanford presented McQueeney, a resident of Mount Pleasant, with the Order of the Palmetto Award, South Carolina's highest honor bestowed upon a civilian.

For the fourth year, members of The Citadel Republican Society have set up the 9/11 Never Forget Project on campus.  Young America's Foundation began the program in 2003 to commemorate the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. The 9/11: Never Forget Project is the largest student activist initiative on September 11, reaching more than 214 campuses nationwide.

“What do I love about the Lowcountry?” Students across the Lowcountry are answering that question for the Oct. 20 celebration of the National Day on Writing. The Lowcountry Writing Project has joined the National Council of Teachers of English and the National Writing Project to celebrate the National Day on Writing.
