The distance between Hollywood, S.C., and The Citadel got a little shorter this summer when seven math, science, and biology teachers from Baptist Hill High School participated in the GEAR UP STEM Summer Camp co-sponsored by The Citadel’s School of Education and School of Engineering.

Nancy Haynsworth, a 52-year-old Citadel Graduate College student pursuing a master’s degree in health, exercise and sports science (HESS), swam across Long Island Sound Aug. 1 to raise money for cancer patients. The Annual SWIM Across the Sound is a 15.5 mile course from Port Jefferson, N.Y., to Bridgeport, Conn.

To celebrate its 13th year The Citadel’s Daniel Library Friends will donate all contributions to its fall books and lecture series to the Daniel Library renovation project, adding to a $1.6 million gift from Bill (’65) and Lyndra Daniel of Birmingham, Ala.

The journey toward principled leadership will begin on Saturday, Aug. 15, for more than 700 young men and women who are expected to report to The Military College of South Carolina for academic orientation and military training. Around 720 students are expected to matriculate by midday on Saturday.
