Parents' Weekend, which concludes on Sunday, is one of three big weekends held annually at The Citadel. The others are Homecoming Weekend in November and Corps Day Weekend in March.

Despite some rain, parents, family and friends filled the bleachers on Summerall Field for the many activities that took place Saturday morning for Parents' Weekend 2008.

Members of the Class of 2012 were promoted to cadet privates. This marks the end of the cadre military training period, which began on Aug. 16, for 639 freshmen cadets.

Parents' Weekend, which concludes on Sunday, is one of three big weekends held annually at The Citadel. The others are Homecoming Weekend in November and Corps Day Weekend in March.

Each year cadet companies compete for the Kelly Cup, which is awarded to the best-drilled fourth-class squad in the Corps of Cadets. This year's winner is Alpha Company.

This week seniors will receive their coveted class rings and freshmen will be promoted from cadet recruits to cadet privates and officially be inducted into the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Rosa, president of the college, will give parents a State of The Citadel report at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Buyer Auditorium in Mark Clark Hall.

Field Day - a series of team-building and fun challenges - gives cadets the chance to engage in friendly competition and build leadership skills and Corps spirit and pride. During Field Day 2008, cadets participated in several activities, including tug-a-war, tire flip and inflatable jousting.
