Citadel Marines presented a check for $83,000 to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund following Saturday's completion of the Cooper River Bridge Run. A day later $2,000 more in donations came in, bringing the tally to $85,000.

Tom Culler, Class of 1950, and Cadet Pvt. Matt Burgess, the youngest cadet, cut the birthday cake celebrating the South Carolina Corps of Cadets founding. Founded by statute in 1842, the first 20 cadets reported for class at the old Citadel on Marion Square in downtown Charleston in 1843.

The Citadel will celebrate the 164th birthday of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets today through Sunday. The Corps Day tradition began with the college's inception. Founded by statute in 1842, the first 20 cadets reported for class at the old Citadel on Marion Square in downtown Charleston in 1843.

Snacks, reading material, stationery, cookies, Citadel headgear and a DVD of well wishes from college employees are among the items inside care packages being sent to alumni troops by ARAMARK, the campus food services outfit, and The Citadel Alumni Association.

Matt Franz, April Foley and Kristina King-Coble of ARAMARK assemble care packages for alumni troops this week at the Holliday Alumni Center. The joint ARAMARK/alumni program was put together to show appreciation for graduates serving in the military overseas.

Lowcountry Girl Scouts from Troop 621 donated Girl Scout cookies and wrote letters and notes to Citadel alumni serving overseas. The cookies are part of care packages for alumni troops put together by ARAMARK and the Alumni Association.
