The Corps of Cadets sits down each year to a traditional Thanksgiving meal in the mess hall. Also a tradition, freshmen make Thanksgiving hats for their upperclass mentors. The personalized hats create a festive atmosphere at the otherwise formal dinner meal. Thanksgiving was served on Tuesday.

Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson spoke to a crowd of about 900 students, faculty, staff and community members Tuesday in McAlister Field House. Thompson was invited to discuss leadership and ethics as the college prepares for its first leadership symposium in March 2008.


Veterans Day is Sunday but today's military dress parade, which begins at 3:45 p.m., is in honor of veterans.

The Summerall Guards, a 61-member silent drill platoon, perform during Homecoming festivities on Saturday. The platoon is named for Gen. Charles P. Summerall, former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and Citadel president from 1931 until 1953.

Spike and Yosef the Ap State mascot (aka Citadel cadet) get fiesty at Thursday's Homecoming 2007 pep rally. The event featured a live band, cheerleaders, the Bulldog football team and a bon fire at WLI Field. The mascots exchanged no blows, only friendly banter.

Citadel Football will celebrate its 55th Homecoming against Appalachian State on Saturday at Johnson Hagood Stadium. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.

The Citadel columbarium, a Class of '57 project, was dedicated Thursday. The columbarium is now available to accept ashes of graduates.

From golf tournaments to parades to football, Homecoming 2007 is under way. The Class of 1957 is celebrating its 50th reunion this year. Also celebrating reunions are the class of 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997 and 2002.
