Sweep detail is one of the chores knobs take care of each morning in the barracks. Cadets rise early and move fast all day to handle physical training, academic work, military duties and other responsibilities.

Java City opens in Daniel Library

Java City, a Sacramento-based company affiliated with Aramark since 2001, has officially opened its Daniel Library cafe for business. Hours, which will change depending on the Corps of Cadets, are 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Starting Aug. 28, hours will expand to include 5-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

This year 673 freshmen reported on matriculation day, one of the largest freshman classes in the last 10 years. Of those, 66 are fall athletes who have completed military training and are now practicing with their respective teams.

Once would-be cadets get their company assignments it is time to pick up physical training uniforms, toiletries and supplies they will need as their military training gets underway.

The Class of 2009 is scheduled to report to campus at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Last year, cadet recruits reported a day late due to Hurricane Charley. So far, no storms seemed poised to force a delay again this year.

Freshman "knob" athletes learn how to march on Summerall Field. Fall athletes report to campus two weeks earlier than most freshmen so they can complete military training and start practice with their respective teams.

Freshman fall athletes - 19 women and 47 men - reported to campus Aug. 1 for orientation and military training. Soon they will join their respective teams for football, cross country, soccer and volleyball practice.

As part of their weeklong leadership training program, Citadel cadets take part in early morning physical training. Today cadets had to use teamwork and problem solving skills to move 1,500-pound reproduction civil war cannons across Summerall Field.

About 100 junior and senior cadets have reported to campus ahead of the 2005-2006 school year to taking part in leadership and human affairs training, which kicked off today with PT on Summerall Field and continued with large and small group discussions.
