PT barracks construction on schedule

The new Padgett-Thomas Barracks, under construction since 2002, is on schedule to open for the arrival of the Class of 2008 this summer. The tower once again looms over campus as it has since the original barracks was built in 1922.

Boo (left) and General (right) rule the military college campus as the official live-in mascots of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. General turned 8 months old on Wednesday, while Boo will be 5 months old on February 29.

Cadets from Palmetto Battery fold the American flag after lowering it recently from the flagpole on Summerall Field. Palmetto Battery, which numbers about 50 cadets, is the ceremonial unit of the Corps of Cadets. In addition to daily flag detail, the battery is responsible for the regimental color guard at parades, honor guard ceremonies and members maintain and fire the salute guns at parade and the touchdown cannons at home football games.
