Director of Athletics Les Robinson with the approval of President Major General John S. Grinalds announced Thursday that former Detroit Lions quarterbacks and wide receivers coach Kevin Higgins has been named The Citadel’s 23rd head football coach.

Camp Eggers was named in honor of Army Capt. Daniel W. Eggers, Class of '97. The former Green Beret was killed May 29, 2004, near Kandahar.

The Citadel’s Presidential Search Committee this week published a timeline of its plans along with a list of qualities it would like the new president of the college to possess. Maj. Gen. John S. Grinalds will retire this summer.

Tod A. Baker died Monday as a result of a traffic accident. Baker joined the faculty in 1967 and retired in 1996.

Easter care packages for military troops overseas will be assembled beginning at 3 p.m. today in Mark Clark Hall Auditorium. Faculty, staff, cadets are welcome to attend. More than $6,100 in cash and hundreds of items were donated to the cadet-sponsored project.

Opened in 1939, the barracks (formerly Barracks #3) is being torn down and replaced with a building that looks exactly the same. Demolition got under way at 9 a.m. today.
