Cadet Ed Sutton's one-year term as governor of the South Carolina Student Legislature begins in November. It is the first time in five years that The Citadel has had a cadet governor in the SCSL.

The first Greater Issues address of the academic year will feature Dr. Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., vice chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26 in McAlister Field House. Greater Issues addresses are free and open to the public.

It's Parents' Weekend and there's plenty to do on campus - from parades and open barracks to athletic events and musical performances. One of the many highlights of the weekend - seniors get their class rings on Friday, Oct. 22.

The prestigious German-American Friendship Award was presented to Dr. James Hardin Friday at The Citadel. The presentation was made in Mark Clark Hall by Dr. Andreas Zimmer, deputy consul general of the Federal Republic of Germany. Hardin, who taught German and comparative literature at the University of South Carolina for 29 years, has donated more than 1,100 volumes of his personal library to the Daniel Library.

Joseph L. Galloway, coauthor of the national bestseller "We Were Soldiers Once…and Young," which was made into a major motion picture starring Mel Gibson, will speak at The Citadel. The talk begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 in Bond Hall Room 165. The public is invited to attend.
