Alfred J. Finch has been named dean of The Citadel School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The top six student military officers will lead the approximately 1,800 members of the S.C. Corps of Cadets this coming fall. They were chosen after extensive interviews and evaluation of their achievements. The 2004 company commanders have also been selected. For their names click here.

Former Citadel offensive guard Morris DeRhon Robinson returns to his alma mater to perform at 3:30 p.m. today (Sunday, May 25)in Summerall Chapel. The concert is part of Piccolo Spoleto. Proceeds will go to The Citadel Foundation to benefit scholarships. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students and senior citizens. To purchase, call (843) 554-6060 or call a Ticketmaster agent. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.PiccoloSpoleto.com.

Commencement exercises this year took place on a hot May morning in McAlister Field House. Some 370 cadets and six active duty military students took part in the ceremony that signaled the end of a four-year academic career at the military college. Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., '64 gave this year's address. ( Click here to see pictures.)

The last graduating senior traditionally gives a speech after receiving his or her diploma. This year’s speech was given by Cadet Grant Zinkon of Johns Island. Zinkon is following in the footsteps of his older brother Yancey, who gave the speech when he graduated in 1999.

The estimated 370 cadets and six active-duty military students who are candidates for graduation today come from 37 states and eight other countries. South Carolina is the most heavily represented state in the class with 131 students walking across the stage followed by Florida (21), Georgia (20) and North Carolina (16).

Approximately 370 cadets and six active-duty military students took part in graduation ceremonies today at The Citadel. Several cadets and two faculty members were recognized during commencement inside McAlister Field House for outstanding achievement

The Class of 2003's final gift to the South Carolina Corps of Cadets will be a live mascot. The symbolic presentation will take place during today's Long Gray Line graduation parade in honor of the Class of 2003. Parade begins at 3 p.m. on Summerall Field.

Classmates along with the parents of Marine Capt. Benjamin Sammis paid tribute Thursday to the 1996 Citadel graduate who was killed in action in Iraq. Steve and Beth Sammis presented the "Captain Benjamin W. Sammis Class of ’96 Semper Fidelis Sword" to Cadet Robert C. Fiorille.

Judge Falcon B. Hawkins, Jr., Gen. Carl E. Mundy, Jr., and S.C. Sen. Hugh K. Leatherman will receive honorary degress during commencement on Saturday.

The Krause Foundation of Los Altos Hills, California has committed to giving $2 million dollars to The Citadel Foundation to support, advance, and endow leadership activities conducted by The Citadel.
