Groundbreaking Friday Friday, April 26, 2002, was a momentous Friday on campus. U.S. Senators Fritz Hollings ('42) of South Carolina and Daniel Inouye of Hawaii were honored guests at the 2 p.m. groundbreaking ceremony for the building of the new Padgett-Thomas Barracks. |

Hollings, who has become known around The Citadel as "St. Fritz,"speaks

Sen. Inouye's courage and heroism as he helped with the wounded after the attack on Pearl Harbor and later in World War II as a volunteer in the Fifth Army. |
